Recent media coverage in the Telegraph, Mail Online and LadBible, amongst others, suggests shoppers in parts of the UK could be purchasing higher levels of products such as dry or tinned food or toilet paper.

The Government has well-established ways of working with the food industry to ensure it is prepared for a wide range of different scenarios. This includes regular meetings between our Ministers and the food industry and supermarkets.

There are no supply chain issues and food retailers are reporting that there is plenty of capacity both online and in stores.

A UK government spokesperson said:

“The UK has a highly resilient food supply chain. We continue to work closely with food retailers and the food industry as we have done throughout the response to the coronavirus pandemic. They are operating normally and as expected.”
